Movistar Chile ordered to pay USD 14 mln in OPS lawsuit

A court in Santiago has ordered Movistar Chile to pay USD 14 million in damages to the engineering and network services provider OPS following anticompetitive behaviour by the mobile operator, reports La Tercera. OPS first brought a suit in 2007 against the company, alleging a margin squeeze by Movistar after the company bought wholesale minutes from the operator. It won an initial ruling from the Competition Defense Tribunal (TDLC) for a fine of around USD 2.4 million, and this was upheld in 2010 by the Supreme Court.
