Movistar Spain backtracks on excess data charges

Tuesday 19 May 2015 | 10:14 CET | News
Movistar (Telefonica) has backtracked on its plans to begin charging customers who exceed their monthly mobile data limit, offering them the possibility to continue browsing at substantially reduced speeds. Movistar recently joined Vodafone and Orange and started charging 1.5 eurocents per additional 1MB of data used by customers above the monthly limit, up to a maximum of 500MB. However, Movistar customers can now choose to have their download speed lowered to a bare minimum of 16Kbps rather than paying for the excess data by contacting the operator and specifically requesting the change.
