MTN Group subscriber base down 1.4% in Q1

Friday 22 April 2016 | 08:02 CET | News
MTN Group subscribers decreased by 1.4 percent in the first quarter to about 229 million at the end of March, impacted by the disconnection of subscribers in Nigeria due to the subscriber registration required there. On a constant currency basis data revenue increased by 20.1 percent annually, contributing 24.2 percent to total revenue. Voice and data traffic increased by 12.1 percent and 123.3 percent respectively year-on-year. The company said the contraction was mainly in Nigeria and Uganda, while Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire are growing faster than expected.
