MTN Irancell grows FY revenues 26.5%

MTN Irancell grew its subscriber base 16.6 percent in 2011 to 34.68 million. The mobile operator attributed the growth to lower-denomination vouchers and seasonal promotions, which helped increase its market share to 45 percent. The improved distribution of airtime through ATMs also led to higher spend by subscribers. Total rial revenue grew 26.5 percent for the year to IRR 33.3 billion, and the EBITDA margin improved by 1.2 points to 42.5 percent, helped by lower distribution and commission costs as physical recharge vouchers were replaced by electronic airtime distribution.
