MTN South Africa steps ups measures to curb battery thefts and vandalism

MTN South Africa says it is increasing security measures and introducing new strategies to prevent battery theft and vandalism at cell tower base stations. It is starting to see success, with as many as 143 batteries worth ZAR 1.2 million, recovered in January. MTN said 338 batteries worth ZAR4 million stolen from its base stations were recovered in July 2019 and that 275 batteries worth almost ZAR 3 million were recovered in September.
