MTN Uganda raises mobile money charges

MTN Uganda has increased mobile money charges between 5 and 10 percent, affecting transactions on cash withdrawal, making payments and sending money with effect from 10 May. MTN increased the charge to UGX 350 for the smallest amount of money one can withdraw through a mobile money agent of UGX 500, compared to UGX 330 to withdraw any amount in the range of UGX 500-2,500. The maximum amount of cash one can withdraw is UGX 7 million, for a new fee of UGX 52,500, compared to the current cost of UGX 49,000 to withdraw a figure in the range of UGX 4 million to UGX 7 million.
