MTN Uganda and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) have announced a partnership to enable payment of social security contributions using mobile money, reports The Monitor. This will make it convenient for their customers, by avoiding long bank queues. The partnership enables NSSF members on the NSSF Voluntary Membership Plan as well as small and medium-sized entities to make payments using MTN Mobile Money.

NSSF will be able to receive contributions promptly, thus enhancing efficiency. Wim Vanhelleputte, the MTN Uganda CEO, said the aim is to foster financial inclusion through easing the payments process for pensions. The deal follows a survey by NSSF Uganda in 2016, in which 67 percent of respondents mentioned mobile money as a preferred and easiest option when remitting social security contributions. Vanhelleputte said that MTN Uganda has over 8.8 million Mobile Money customer.
