MultiChoice acquires ZAR 1.8 bln stake in BetKing

MultiChoice Group has agreed to buy a 20 percent stake in Africa-focused sports betting platform BetKing for up to ZAR 1.8 billion, Bloomberg reported. MultiChoice CEO Calvo Mawela said sports betting is an interesting market aligned with the pay-TV business. DStv packages include live English football, and MultiChoice struck a deal with Walt Disney earlier this year to add two ESPN channels showing US sport such as basketball.
