National Assembly rejects online advertising tax

France's National Assembly has rejected a draft law to impose an online advertising tax in the country. AFP writes that the so-called Google Tax was withdrawn from the budget bill on 10 June through an amendment tabled by Laure de la Raudiere of the country's ruling centre-right UMP party. The tax due to come into effect on 1 July was proposed by the Senate at the end of last year. Digital economy minister Eric Besson recently called for its postponement, as did France's new national digital council.
