NCC fines operators NGN 53.8 mln for pre-registered Sims

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has imposed NGN 53.8 million in fines on four GSM operators for contravening a directive that forbids the use of unregistered SIM cards in Nigeria. The fines are based on the number of fully activated new SIM cards that were either reported to the Commission or purchased in compliance monitoring and enforcement exercises conducted by the Commission, and validated by the offending network, The Independent reported. Each such pre-registered SIM attracts a penalty of NGN 200,000. MTN Nigeria received a NGN 29.2 million fine for 146 pre-registered SIM
