NCC orders operators to block pre-registered SIM cards

The Nigerian Telecommunications Commission (NCC) has ordered mobile telecommunications firms to block pre-registered SIM cards, which are believed to be used by criminals, especially kidnappers, armed robbers and fraudsters, reports CommunicationsWeek. Ismail Adedigba, NCC deputy director at the Consumer Affairs Bureau, also warned that severe punishment awaits any provider whose network is still carrying a pre-registered SIM card.
