NCC says Etisalat licence cannot be transferred to banks

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has told the consortium of banks to which it Etisalat owes USD 1.2 million that they cannot take over its operating licence without NCC approval. Thirteen Nigerian lenders led by Access Bank have acted on a threat to take over Etisalat by 16 June, following its inability to meet the payment terms for the loan that it took in 2013 for network upgrade and expansion.
