NCC to check telcos' financial and technical status after Etisalat Nigeria affair

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says it has commenced a thorough check to determine the financial and technical status of all licensed telecommunications operators in the country, reports ThisDay. Director of stakeholder management at the NCC, Sunday Dare, said this was necessary to forestall any recurrence of the 9mobile occurrence, where the company became indebted to a consortium of thirteen banks that lent it USD 1.2 billion, and was unable to repay.
