Nearly 7 in 10 young Europeans buying their own smartphones - study

The proportion of young Europeans making handset purchases themselves has grown steadily in recent years, according to a wide-ranging study of smartphone consumption among Gen Z (born 1997-2012) and Gen Y (born 1981-1996) users from Kantar. In 2019, some 68 percent of smartphones owned by Gen Z users in EU5 countries (UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy) were self-purchased compared to 62 percent in 2017, said Kantar, adding that self-purchase has also increased among Gen Y.
