Nearly half of Italian classrooms lack internet – study

The digital divide between students and teachers is growing ever wider in Italy, according to a study prepared by the Glocus think tank to be presented by the ministry of education on 12 June. Italian daily Corriere della Sera reports that 45.8 percent of Italian classrooms (around 130,000) still aren't wired, while 4,200 school buildings (around 18.5 percent of the total) have no internet connection whatsoever. In addition, there are only 70,000 interactive whiteboards in schools, and only 14,000 tablets for individual use. The study concludes that at least EUR 400 million will be needed to
