NEC, Telefonica run first vCPE equipment trial in Brazil

NEC and Telefonica have announced the completion of the first trial for virtual customer-premises equipment (vCPE) for residential users in the network of Telefonica's Brazilian affiliate Vivo. The test was conducted with existing customers for the first time in the world and deployed in the operator's own commercial network, said NEC, adding that the virtual CPE architecture focuses on home simplification by shifting functions to the operator's network. Following the completion of this trial, and according to the evaluation of its results, both companies aim to start commercial
