New 1Gbps FTTH connections available to 22% of Italian population - study

FTTH lines offering speeds of up to 1 Gbps can theoretically be activated by 22 percent of the Italian population, according to a report on the evolution of the fibre-optic market from 2013 to 2017 conducted by price comparison site SosTariffe. The survey concluded that increased broadband availability has resulted in prices falling 35 percent over the 5-year period, led by 7-20Mbps ADSL connections, which have fallen from an average of EUR 27.40 in 2013 to EUR 23.30 a month in this year, with 100Mbps fibre offers falling 35.3 percent to percent to around EUR 23 a month.
