New EMF radiation standards take effect in India

Stringent new EMF radiation standards have taken effect in India. Mobile towers now have an EM exposure limit of 1/10th of the existing ICNIRP exposure level. Telecom Enforcement Resource & Monitoring (Term) Cells will audit some 10 percent of base stations randomly and in cases of public complaints. If operators are found to breach the new norms, they can be fined INR 500,000 per BTS. Meanwhile, new mobile handsets are required to meet Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) values of 1.6 W/kg averaged over 1 gram of human tissue. Existing mobile handsets, which comply with the old 2.0 W/kg averaged
