New Spanish 'super-regulator' absorbs CMT

All of the activities and functions of Spanish telecoms regulator CMT have been fully integrated into the new 'super-regulator' CNMC (National Commission for Markets and Competition), which began operating on 7 October. The new regulator absorbs not only the CMT, but also the competition authority, energy regulator and a number of smaller watchdogs. In addition, some of the regulatory powers previously enjoyed by independent bodies have been shifted to Spain's industry ministry.
