Festival Mushroom Group (FMG), subsidiary of News Corp, and sanity.com, E-commerce firm, are planning a 5-year online music alliance which threatens to severely restrict sales of FMG products in conventional record stores across Australia. The alliance, announced on 23 February 2000, is opposed by Leading Edge and HMV, both music retail chains, and ChaosMusic (all Australia), online retailer, who are pressing FMG to abandon the exclusive agreement. The 5-year deal gives sanity.com a 3-year exclusive right to distribute and sell downloadable copies of songs from FMG's Australian artists,
