Niger's 2,275 km fibre optic backbone is expected to be completed by the end of 2016, reports Agence Ecofin. China International Telecommunication Construction began the roll-out in the city of Tillaberi in June. The project is being financed through a USD 99.5 million, 20-year loan from Exim Bank China. Incumbent operator Sonitel will operate the network once it is completed. The landlocked country built a connection to Burkina Faso in 2012 to gain access to the Sat-3/WASC undersea cable.
