Nigeria government eyes 20% broadband penetration by 2017

The Nigerian government says it has taken measures to expand broadband penetration to 20 percent by 2017 from 6 percent currently. ICT minister Omobola Johnson said one obstacle was the exorbitant demands from various agencies over rights of way for laying fibre cables. She said over seven Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are demanding between NGN 500 million to NGN 1 billion from a single operator to grant a permit.
