Nigerian banks deny asking MTN to charge customers for USSD banking

Nigerian banks have denied asking MTN to impose a new charge on customers for using the telecom firm's access codes to conduct financial transactions, Premium Times reported. On 20 October, MTN announced a NGN 4 charge for every 20 seconds of using USSD bank codes, claiming this followed a request from the banks. The government later ordered the suspension of the charge after many people expressed outrage.
