Nigerian web registry to spend NGN 11 mln on kit upgrade

The Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NiRA) said that it would spend NGN 11 million on an infrastructure upgrade in order to register 250,000 users of the country's domain by 2013. NiRA manages Nigeria's identity in cyberspace and its associated sub-level domain names to ensure cost-effective administration of the .ng Top Level Domain, while the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN), which has signed an MoU with NiRA on outsourcing, provides core infrastructure that allows several ISPs and network operators to exchange traffic between their networks locally.
