Niger's telecom regulator to reform into Arcep

The government of Niger has submitted new legislation for parliamentary approval aimed at reforming the country's regulatory authority responsible for telecom and postal services, in order to comply with new directives adopted within the Western African economic community CEDEAO (Communaute economique des Etats d'Afrique de l'Ouest). The existing regulator, ARTP, will be named Arcep and will implement a number of reforms covering, among others, the adoption of a code of conduct. The new law also strengthens the sanctioning powers of the regulator, giving it the option to reduce the duration
