NL-Alert test reaches 3.9 mln mobile users

The NL-Alert system works, despite a few small problems, according to the Dutch government's evaluation of a second test of the national mobile alert system. On 04 November a message sent over NL-Alert reached 3.9 million people directly. An estimated 86 percent of the population say they would take action after receiving an alert by mobile phone. The system will be used to alert residents of local emergency situations. Based on cell broadcast rather than SMS, NL-Alert works with all three network providers, over 2G and 3G.
