Nokia reaches 10 Gbps symmetrical data speed over HFC

Nokia announced that it reached symmetrical data speeds of 10 Gbps over traditional Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC) cable systems in a world-first trial. The company used a prototype technology called XG-Cable developed by Nokia Bell Labs to show that existing cable systems can support 10 Gbps data speeds for both uploading and downloading content. Hailing the successful proof of concept as a major breakthrough for a cable industry looking to meet surging data demand, Nokia said the test used point-to-point cable topologies to achieve the speed over coaxial cable using 1.2 Ghz of spectrum.
