Northwestel agrees to make internet, mobile wireless improvements to benefit Northerners

Canada's telecommunications authority CRTC reached a settlement with local operator Northwestel following the operator's contravention of the Telecommunications Act. Under the terms of the settlement, the operator agreed to spend CAD 5 million in new and unplanned investments to upgrade its network infrastructure. Over a period of seven years, Northwestel failed to obtain the CRTC's approval for the rates it charged for nine telecommunications services. Northwestel brought the non-compliance to the Commission's attention.
