Norwegian data body rejects cross-border digital spying plan

Monday 16 January 2017 | 12:39 CET | News
The Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) has criticised plans to monitor cross-border communications, ahead of a consultation statement on 20 January. It said the Lysne II committee recommendations in their current form would cause widespread surveillance of the general public, running the risk that everyone will restrict what they say. It said it is very likely that the data collected would be used for other purposes and by other bodies than the intelligence service E-tjenesten.
