Norwegian mobile grids must have 6 hours' back-up energy

Norwegian postal and telecoms regulator PT says it has reached a decision that mobile telephony network operators should ensure they have at least six hours' reserve electricity in case of power failures. Currently, most coverage areas have between one and five hours' back-up power. It said Telenor, TeliaSonera Norway, Mobile Norway and ICE.net have until 30 August 2013 to comment on the decision. Providers have until 01 December 2018 to comply with the six-hour minimum reserve electricity requirement. Exemptions will be allowed for indoor coverage or areas with no permanent dwellings or
