Norwegian press alleges Telenor Wi-Fi calling shortcomings

Monday 16 January 2017 | 12:57 CET | News
Norwegian regional newspaper Faedrelandsvennen said on its website that Telenor's new Wi-Fi calling service sometimes provides poor voice quality, as the system does not distinguish between signal strength and data capacity. Telenor project leader Sonam Rani told the newspaper that the software does not take into account saturation on the Wi-Fi grid, but only signal strength. Rani said this means that even where coverage is good, heavy traffic or low capacity can cause poor voice quality.
