Nos tests smart meter over new NB-IoT network

The first electrical energy smart meter using 4.5G NB-IoT communication technology has been successfully tested, Huawei announced. The manufacturer and Janz CE designed the new meter using modules from u-blox and working with Portuguese energy company EDP Distribuicao and local telecom operator Nos. Nos deployed the NB-loT network based on Huawei infrastructure, making it the first operator in Portugal and one of the first in the world to use the standardised version of this technology. A demonstration will be conducted by the end of the year in Lisbon, as part of the EU's Horizon 2020 UPGRID
