O2 UK and ITIS Holdings to trial traffic-flow system

Monday 21 June 2004 | 14:50 CET | News
O2 UK and UK road traffic information and data specialist ITIS Holdings plan to trial a traffic-flow system in Scotland as part of a project sponsored by the Scottish Executive. The firms will collaborate on the deployment of technology to measure and forecast traffic movements in real time, based on the anonymous sampling of mobile phones' positions. The project follows ITIS's takeover of Estimotion in December 2003 and the rollout of similar technology in Tel Aviv, Israel. If the Scottish trial is successful, the system could be deployed across the UK.
