Ofcom adopts BT fibre margin squeeze rule

UK communications regulator Ofcom has confirmed a new measure requiring BT to maintain a sufficient margin between its wholesale and retail superfast broadband charges to allow other providers to match its prices profitably. The pricing rule comes into effect on 1 April, and allows BT to keep its current flexibility to set wholesale fibre prices, creating incentive for future investment. But it will not be able to squeeze out competitors with its retail pricing.
