Ofcom applies code powers to Hen Beudy Services, I4 Technology Group

Monday 2 December 2019 | 17:40 CET | News

UK regulator Ofcom is consulting on proposals to apply Electronic Communications Code Powers to Hen Beudy Services and I4 Technology Group. The consultations close on 02 January 2020, with Ofcom believing that the networks planned by the applicants will benefit the public by improving the quality of available services and helping to meet rising connectivity demands.

Hen Beudy Services, trading as Rural Technologies Wales, is a telecoms provider operating a fixed wireless access (FWA) network used to provide broadband services to homes, businesses and communities in Wales. It plans to expand its network in Wales and across the border into the western counties of England. After deciding that FWA technology is not scalable for large urban network deployments, it is proposing to deploy a FTTP network and is seeking Code Powers to support this roll-out.

This FTTP network will be installed and owned by Hen Beudy Services and operated by sister company Beacons Telecoms. It will be used to deliver full-fibre broadband services from 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps for consumers and businesses, as well as telephony services. The network will be deployed in BT duct and pole infrastructure using the Openreach Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) product.

I4 Technology Group is a telecoms provider operating a FTTP network and infrastructure system serving mainly new housing developments. The network is operated on an open access basis, providing wholesale broadband services to other telecoms providers to give homeowners a choice of retail broadband service provider. It is seeking code powers to support expansion of its network and infrastructure system to serve other new housing developments. It also plans to expand the network to households and businesses along cable routes between its local aggregation nodes and housing developments, and to provide backhaul services for 5G networks.
