Ofcom proposes to award 3.6–3.8 GHz spectrum for 5G services

Ofcom has published a consultation document on the future use of the 3.6 – 3.8 GHz spectrum band, which has been identified by the regulator as a high priority band for the roll-out of 5G mobile networks. Ofcom is proposing to award for mobile services any spectrum in this band that is not already in use for electronic communications services. This raises questions around the existing other users of this band, which currently provide fixed links and satellite services for space to Earth reception. The consultation is seeking input on whether spectrum in this band could be shared or should be
