Oi looks vulnerable to takeover, claims UBS analyst

Wednesday 8 October 2014 | 22:03 CET | News
The resignation of Zeinal Bava as CEO of Oi has left Brazil's largest fixed-line telephone operator "weaker and more vulnerable to a takeover," claims UBS Securities. In a client note, analyst Maria Tereza Azevedo said Bava's departure has reduced the visibility of any outlook for mergers in Brazil's telecommunications industry. Speculation that Oi could seek to buy pieces of rival TIM Participacoes has mounted in recent weeks. Bava was seen as one of the main supporters of a TIM break-up, the note added.
