Oi seeking to reduce fee for use of GlobeNet submarine cable

Monday 9 January 2017 | 15:26 CET | News
Brazilian telecommunications operator Oi is trying to reduce in court the amount paid for the use of capacity on the GlobeNet submarine cable between Brazil and the US, reports Teleco. When Oi sold GlobeNet to a fund managed by BTG in 201,3 it acquired for fifteen years a minimum capacity of 2.4 TB, for which it pays USD 242 million annually. The operator wants to reduce this fee to USD 115 million, which would correspond to its actual use, which is below the minimum contracted capacity.
