Oi to offer free calls from payphones in Rio Grande do Sul

Friday 10 April 2015 | 10:41 CET | News
Brazilian operator Oi will have to offer, starting from 15 April, free calls from public phones in the state of Rio Grande do Sul to landline numbers, reports O Globo. The punishment was imposed by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) because the company has not complied with the requirement to keep running 90 percent of the state's public phones. According to an Anatel order published in the Official Gazette in February, Oi would have to maintain 90 percent of public telephones operating until 31 March, which in the case of Rio Grande do Sul, did not happen.
