Omnitele says DNA has fastest mobile data on Helsinki metro

Omnitele said that Finnish company DNA had the fastest average download speed on the Helsinki metropolitan railway in tests run in November and December, reaching 80.5 Mbps. Telia came second at 52.6 Mbps and Elisa third with 47.7 Mbps.

It was DNA itself that had contracted Omnitele to measure and compare the mobile internet speeds. The benchmark looked at download speeds available with each service provider’s best consumer segment plan, namely with unlimited data volumes and the fastest data rate.

The Helsinki Metro system includes the new extension into Espoo, known as West Metro. The measurements were carried out during November and December 2017. Omnitele took measurements on the routes from every station between Matinkyla - Mellunmaki – Vuosaari.

The comparatively high data rates can be attributed mostly to the wide LTE network deployments by all three service providers. The most remarkable differences primarily correlated with the utilisation rate of 2CC (Two Component Carriers) and 3CC (Three Component Carriers) LTE Carrier Aggregation.
