Online security responsibility for users, providers - study

Almost two thirds or 62 percent of German internet users older than 14 years find themselves responsible for securing their personal data online, growing from 54 percent in 2012 and 52 percent in 2009, according to a survey cited by German ICT and new media federation Bitkom. At the same time, less Germans find the German state responsible dropping from 44 percent in 2009 via 36 percent in 2012 to 15 percent in this year, while providers of online services and hard/software suppliers are mentioned by 22 percent as main responsible compared with 6 percent in 2012 and 3 percent in 2009.
