Only 37% of Italians have landline - Ofcom

The unstoppable rise in the popularity of smartphones and mobile phones in Italy, at the expense of landlines, was demonstrated in a report issued by UK regulator Ofcom indicating that in 2014 there were only 37 fixed telephones per 100 inhabitants. The figure places Italy last among the ten sampled advanced nations in terms of landline ownership, with the UK at the opposite end of the scale with 61 landlines per 100 residents. Italy also had the highest number of mobile connections per 100 inhabitants, at 154, and the second highest smartphone take-up, at 79 percent of respondents, behind
