Only a third of Spanish postpay contracts tied to smartphone sales

Monday 25 May 2020 | 10:55 CET | News
Just over a third of Spanish users (35%) had a permanence clause in their postpay contract due to the acquisition of a subsidised smartphone at the end of 2019, down from over a half (52%) in 2016, according to a survey by sector regulator CNMC. The majority of postpay users (51%) now accept a permanence clause on account of a tariff reduction offered by the operator, up from 33 percent in 2016, with 21 percent doing so due to an offer of convergent services and 8 percent agreeing to stick with the operator in exchange for a speed hike, up from 6 percent in Q4 2016.
