Etisalat needs local partner to buy Maroc Telecom - report

Wednesday 10 July 2013 | 08:53 CET | News
Broadband and mobile operator Maroc Telecom, which owns units in Burkina Faso, Gabon, Mali and Mauritania, will come under the control of UAE telecom group Etisalat if they accept a local minority partner, according to the Moroccan government, which owns 30 percent of the company. Reuters reports that while this stipulation may delay the sale of French conglomerate Vivendi's 53 percent stake to Etisalat, the transaction is expected to reach a successful conclusion. Reports have priced the stake at EUR 4 billion to EUR 5 billion and Etisalat is the only remaining bidder.
