Optus to cut 10% of workforce in cost-cutting drive - report

Australian operator Optus has drawn up plans to cut 10 percent of its workforce, equal to about 1,000 jobs, and cut costs by more than AUD 200 million, the paper The Australian reported. Confidential documents obtained by the paper from within Optus show customer service and network roles in the consumer arm will be affected most by the cuts. The plan delivered to senior Optus executives in recent weeks sets out an ambitious cost-cutting program that could see as many as 1,011 staff removed from the consumer business in its next financial year to March 2017.
