Orange continues to provide payphones, despite end of term

Orange France's term as the sole provider of payphones under its universal service obligation expired on 14 February, but the operator will continue to provide the public service until a successor is found, reports Le Monde. Use of payphones has plummeted due to the ubiquity of mobile phones. It is uncertain whether candidates will reply to the tender that the government plans to launch. In case there is none, the state could simply designate a new payphone operator.
