Orange Money has 5.6 million customers at end-2012

Orange Money was being used by 5.6 million customers in 13 African and Middle Eastern countries at the end of 2012, Orange announced as it launched the payment service in Uganda in January. After introducing the service in Cote d'Ivoire in 2008, the mobile money service was extended to Mali, Senegal, Niger, Botswana, Kenya, Madagascar, Cameroon, Jordan, Morocco, Guinea, Mauritius and Uganda. Orange has set up a web-based international money transfer website at omtransfer.com for Madagascar and Mali, allowing money to be sent from anywhere in the world with a bank card.
