Orange Slovakia, 4ka extend VoLTE to non-certified devices

Friday 11 January 2019 | 14:32 CET | News

Orange Slovakia and 4ka have opened the service VoLTE to smartphones from any manufacturer, even models that have not been certified, reports Zive.sk. Slovak Telekom also offers VoLTE but does not plan to take such a step. Beside VoLTE, Orange also VoWiFi, and is the only Slovak operator to do so.

The service works on condition that the manufacturer allows VoLTE calls for the device. The function needs to be switched on in the phone settings, too.

Under the certification procedure, the operator verifies implementation of VoLTE on a model from a particular manufacturer, explains 4ka's spokesman. After the tests are successful, the telephone is officially supported by the 4ka network. However, even without this certification, 4ka supports the service as long as the device is compliant with 4ka's network and with the international 3GPP standard. Then VoLTE will work on 4ka's network automatically.

O2 Slovakia originally announced a plan to launch the service before the end of 2018. However, it still has not begun doing so and has not announced another launch date.
