Orange to test millimetre-wave 5G in Belfort

French telecom regulator Arcep has authorised Orange to conduct 5G trials in the city of Belfort until the end of 2016. The trials are part of the mmMagic project of the 5G-PPP public-private partnership between the European Commission and the telecom industry. The purpose of this project is to examine the conditions of use for millimetre-wave frequency bands between 6 GHz and 100 GHz for 5G. These very high frequency bands are still not being used by current mobile networks, and represent a key component in achieving the performance objectives being set for the new mobile technology.
