Orascom Telecom invests USD 70 mln in Telecel Zimbabwe

Orascom Telecom has injected USD 70 million into its Zimbabwe unit Telecel, part of which will be used to boost network coverage, the Financial Gazette reported. Network coverage is currently at 80 percent, and Telecel wants to raise this to 90 percent. Telecel Zimbabwe CEO Francis Mawindi said the mobile operator was now well capitalised after the USD 70 million cash injection. Mawindi said the company would invest in network expansion in order to increase service delivery. Telecel currently has a subscriber base of 2.62 million, up from 2.58 million at the end of 2012.
